Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid by means of a specific grant based on school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for FSM in reception to Year 11. For looked after children the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903).
A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils. The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and it will be used by this school to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.
Catch-Up Funding
In August 2020, the Government announced additional funding for schools to deliver Catch-Up interventions for pupils to to mitigate the impact of national school closures following the Covid-19 lockdown measures. The provision of this funding is subject to change over coming academic years.
Our strategy provides a broad outline of how the catch-up funding will support rapid pupil progress in the context of returning from national school closures and the disruption faced by pupils as a result of Covid-19. The strategies described are not only integral to pupils recovering lost learning, but also to the School Improvement and Development Plan. As such, the Catch-Up funding allows the schools to enhance the programme of support and curriculum offer that is made to all pupils. The financial cost of these strategies far exceeds the Catch-Up funding allocation made to each school and, as a result, the strategy is significantly supported by school budgets.
Our school priorities:
- Stamina in reading & writing
- Reading for meaning
- Fluency of mathematical concepts
- Reasoning in mathematics and across the curriculum
The core approaches we are implementing are:
- Quality First Teaching: training for staff to further develop their pedagogical understanding and classroom practice.
- Sharply focussed, teacher planned & time limited intervention or booster sessions delivered by a designated members of staff for targeted pupils who, despite quality first teaching, may still fall behind or struggle to catch-up.
- Targeted in-class support provided by class teachers, teaching assistants and learning support assistants.
- Pre-teaching for pupils who will benefit
- Daily 1:1 reading for pupils who are not reading at ARE
The overall aim of our Catch-up premium strategy is:
- Gaps in pupils’ knowledge and understanding as result of Covid are addressed to ensure all can make rapid progress and reach ARE or above.
